QUESTION: How to position myself as an expert without doing teleseminars or interviews?
That’s an EXCELLENT question to kickstart this series!
First of all, it is important to realize that everyone is an expert - at something.
It’s not as if we are ‘pretending’ or ‘fooling’ anyone about that - and one of the main reasons I recommend following a niche where you really have expertise, in some form or another… or can acquire it in a reasonable period.
Doing teleseminars and interviews is one way to be perceived as an ‘expert’. But think about it for a moment - whom would YOU consider an ‘expert’?
1. People with qualifications e.g. a lawyer, or doctor, or certified professional in any field
2. People who are in print e.g. authors, magazine and newspaper columnists
3. People who are quoted in the press and media as specialists
4. People with a significant presence in the field/niche
Do these give you ideas?
What if you created an ‘authority resource’ in your niche, with a website or blog loaded with valuable content, links from the top respected sites in your niche, and endorsements from experts in the subject?
Could you write articles or reports in your subject area that would get picked up in print media - or even published online on authority websites and blogs?
Can you position yourself as someone the press and reporters can seek for a ‘quote’ for articles or news clips they are working on? It isn’t as difficult as it sounds. There are some resources where you can register as a specialist, and say you are available for comment for news stories in your area of expertise.
And it becomes even easier if you have authored a book (or even an ebook or newsletter) - because it gives you perceived status as an expert.
