• You can rent a car that is the smallest car available and ask some upgrades later. The price difference between small and medium sized cars can reach from 5 up to 15 percent. Some upgrades are free of charge.

• Be cautious about the car insurance and you must have to insure them. However, you own car insurance probably covers a rented car, and your credit cards can also provide some coverage. Check you car insurance policy beforehand so that you can avoid insurance add-ons from the rental firm.

• Renting a car on weekends can be cheaper. Some car rental firms offer discounted packages from Friday to Sunday.

• You can plan ahead and check for last minute travels. If you have decided in traveling over a busy period like Thanksgiving or Memorial Day, plan ahead. On the other hand, some car rental firms put their unreserved car on a slash rate basis at the last minute. You can contact a rental car company near you to find out any last-minute discounts.

• You can look to rental companies that have online sites for prices. When shopping for different car rental online sites, you will have the opportunity to compare the prices quickly and easily.

• When you have rented your preferred car its gas tank is full. So when you return the car, the gas tank must be full also. If you had returned the rented car without filling the gas tank, the company will charge you with their own gas prices and may double the amount to local gas prices.

• As much as possible don’t rent at the airport. When you have arrived and your destination is hundred miles away, it is advisable not to rent a car in the airport. It’s because some rental firms pay extra fees at the airport, and as a result, the rent price can be twice as much as to other car rentals. Airport rentals can cost you 26 percent more.

• You can try for some arrangements from a travel agent. Travel agents can give you discounted rental fee. Their discounted packages with the rental firm may be good enough to make it valuable, even with other extra fee.

• Watch out for some extra fees. These extra fees vary widely from different rental company. Extra fees can include the charges for a second driver, for extra miles, and late fees. Drivers who are under the age of 25 also being charged to a corresponding extra fee per day.

• You can try to a company that rate high in terms of customer service.
