Keep It Simple In Your Home Business

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

A common mistake is to assume that something that is extremely simple cannot be effective. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it is often the simple things that work well in an online home business.

Often it is the business owner’s tendency to over-complicate matters that creates unnecessary twists and extraneous turns in what should otherwise be a straightforward set of processes.

Have Clear Goals

For each step you set up in your home business, ask yourself why it exists. What does the step expect to achieve? Is this the best way to do it? Can other alternatives work well? With clearly defined goals for each step, you’ll do away with most excesses.

Think In Systems

Break down each step into component parts. Then arrange the components into the most efficient sequence, so that each one leads naturally to the next.

For example, your opt-in system may work like this:

  • visitor arrives at landing page
  • sales copy convinces them to opt-in
  • subscriber is redirected to a confirmation page
  • new subscriber is presented with an offer
  • payment is processed
  • buyer is redirected to the download page
  • customer is invited to join affiliate program

All of this can be set up to seamlessly guide a visitor to become a subscriber, then buyer, and then an affiliate.

Integrate All Steps

By carefully considering the different pathways a prospect will take through your home business website, you can design your entire site to be user-friendly and optimized to get the most from all visitors.

The more efficient your design, the easier prospects will find navigating around it, and the more enjoyable the experience. This in turn leads to higher sales and increased referrals.

Make It Scalable

Simple does not necessarily mean limited in size. By intelligent planning and design, you can have your home business scale in size as it grows, without needing to completely revamp the structure or make expensive upgrades or changes to scripts and software that powers it.

So keep your business simple and sweet. It will be easier to manage, faster to scale when the time comes, and more efficient to run – a factor that’s important especially if you intend selling it in the future.
