Theodore Robert ‘Ted’ Bundy was an American serial killer. Bundy raped and murdered scores of young women across the United States between 1974 and 1978.
On December 30, 1977, Bundy was in the Glenwood Springs jail waiting trial. Somehow he had acquired a hacksaw blade and $500 in cash. He sawed through the welds fixing a small metal plate in the ceiling and made his escape. The Glenwood Springs jail guards did not notice Bundy was gone until noon on December 31, 17 hours after his escape, by which time he was already in Chicago. Bundy was eventually apprehended heading west across the Florida panhandle in a stolen Volkswagen Beetle on February 15, 1978. During his escape, Bundy had bludgeoned and raped six women, killing three of them.
