The Supremes was a Grammy Award-nominated R&B girl group during the 1960s and 1970s. They were the most successful American vocal group during the sixties; second only to The Beatles in charts and sales and the most successful female singing group of all time. Active from 1959 until 1977, the Supremes performed, at various times, doo-wop, pop, soul, Broadway show tunes, and disco. In October 1966 their album “The Supremes A’ Go-Go” was the first album by an all female group to reach the number-one on The Billboard 200 album charts in the United States.
