Hammond Edward “Ham” Fisher (September 24, 1900 - September 7, 1955) was an American comic strip writer. His most famous creation is Joe Palooka.
Ham Fisher started as a journalist during his teenage years. Later he became a salesman until he successfully launched Joe Palooka in New York in 1928. Searching for others to work on the strip with him, Fisher hired (among others) Al Capp, who was better known as cartoonist and writer of Li’l Abner).
Fisher was infamous for the low wages he paid his employees, and when Capp later complained, Fisher falsely accused Capp of using obscenities in Li’l Abner. Fisher fabricated his own “examples” in an attempt to make his case
